Orbital Scrubber

Proper cleaning and restoration is an essential first step in the refinishing of wood decks.  Our DuraCoat Pros use an Orbital Scrubber to deeply clean your deck. This process also opens the wood pores for better penetration of our  DuraCoat Wood Sealer & stain topcoats.
Ask your Deck Staining Pro about carpentry services to replace worn or broken boards.

Causes Of Discoloration

Your DuraCoat Deck Staining Pro understands wood surfaces. There are a number of sources of discoloration of wood. These include:

  • dirt and other foreign materials such as tree sap, bird droppings, grease, etc.

  • fungal discolorations from mildew, mold, decay, and sap stain growth

  • algae, moss, and lichen growth

  • nail and other iron stains

  • tannins and other extracts from the wood

  • graying of the wood due to surface decomposition by sunlight and moisture

  • fading/decomposition of weathered coatings.

The DuraCoat System Deck Staining Pro addresses the items of deterioration. Some of these discolorations are chemical in nature; others are biological. All should be removed prior to refinishing. Only then, can the proper restoration process begin. In addition to being unsightly, these discolorations and the agents that cause them can significantly interfere with the performance of subsequently applied coatings. Thus, their removal is important from a performance as well as an aesthetic standpoint.

Deck Cleaners And Restorers

Your DuraCoat System Deck Staining Pro uses the best products to clean and restore your wood surface. Our Orbital Scrubber works the products into the wood for more effective removal of contaminents. Most stain manufacturers recommended household products such as detergents for dirt removal and liquid bleach for mildew removal.

Cleaning with Strippers

Your DuraCoat System Deck Staining Pro will evaluate your wood surface for stripper-use. Often, in order to restore your wood deck and prepare it for refinishing, the previous finish will need to be removed by stripping. Strippers will remove varnishes, oil-based stains, or latex stains and paints. They are pretty potent though, and require some care in use and handling. Residual amounts of the strippers should be thoroughly rinsed from the wood before any product is reapplied. Your DuraCoat System Deck Staining Pro power washes the surface as a final step of deep cleaning.

Opening the Pores of the Wood

As noted previously, proper surface preparation of weathered decks is an essential first step of the DuraCoat System. The successful refinishing of these substrates first depends on proper cleaning/stripping. Failure to remove dirt, mildew, and weathered residues is an open invitation for early failure of subsequently applied coatings. Also, your DuraCoat System Deck Staining Pro treats your deck/fence to open the wood's pores, so that the application of Sealer or Stain can deeply penetrate into the wood's body for longer-lasting protection.
